TRIANGLE ROCKS WITH "MUSIC IN THE PARK" SERIES
AUSTIN—The
Triangle, a residential and retail landmark in Central
Austin, is coming to life as a neighborhood gathering place.
One of its biggest attractions is Music in the Park, being held in
Triangle Park, a two-acre green space at the heart of The Triangle, which now
offers a regular schedule of musical acts and events.
The Triangle is located between Lamar Boulevard and Guadalupe Street,
just north of 45th Street at the northern edge of the burgeoning
Uptown area of Austin.
The series started in June with Gnappy, the Austin-based funk band. The free
concerts are held every Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Concertgoers can bring
blankets, food and beverages, and they can also take advantage of specials at
Triangle hot spots like Mandola’s Italian Market and Flipnotics Coffeespace
Café, both located at The Triangle.
Information on upcoming concerts can be found at The Triangle events page at http://www.myspace.com/thetriangleevents.
Neighbors of The Triangle are being invited to the concert through a
combination of fliers and web-based announcements.
“Slowly but surely, The Triangle is becoming the social focal point for
North Central Austin. We are working hard to follow through on the commitments
we made to the community,” said Tom Terkel, president of Cencor Urban, the
driving force behind The Triangle.
Triangle Park already is attracting about 2,000 people every Wednesday for the
Austin Farmers’ Market, held each week from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The mid-week
Farmers’ Market features 40 vendors offering produce, prepared foods, meats,
cheeses, wines, organic clothing and related items.
Every other Saturday morning at Triangle Park, the neighborhood gathers for free
“Yoga in the Park,” held from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
Sessions this month will be held on
July 14 and July 28.
When complete, The Triangle will feature 750 apartments and 120,000 square feet
of small-tenant retail.
The retail space at The Triangle reflects the surrounding neighborhoods through
a community of retailers and restaurants that offer home-grown businesses,
together with a few concepts from around the state of Texas.
A destination at The Triangle is Mandola’s Italian Market, which offers
Italian specialty foods, a variety of Italian wines and a trattoria specializing
in rustic Italian dishes. The market is the brainchild of Damian Mandola, a
founding partner of Carrabba’s Italian Grill and the host of popular PBS
cooking show.
Recently opening was Flipnotics Coffeespace Cafe, billed as “Austin’s home
of hot coffee, cool threads and live music since 1992.” Flipnotics also has a
landmark location on Barton Springs Road.
Opening this fall at The Triangle will be Galaxy Café, which also
operates a location on Brodie Lane; Dragon Gate by Phoenix, an Austin-based
restaurant that the Austin Chronicle called “flawless”; Tino’s Greek Café,
a Mediterranean restaurant that also operates a location in Northwest Austin;
Flying Saucer, a Dallas-based restaurant known for having “the best beer and
the wurst (sic) food” in town; Mama Fu’s, Yumei Sushi, Fish City Grill,
Which Wich and many more.
