Professional Background
Thomas
J. Terkel is Executive Vice President of Cencor Realty Services and is leading
Cencor Solutions, a division that focuses the efforts of Cencor and The Weitzman
Group to assist owners of distressed real estate accomplish their goals. Under
Terkel’s direction, Cencor Solutions is forming joint ventures with investors
to invest in and provide services to owners of distressed retail assets.
Previously, Terkel directed Cencor Urban and was responsible for The
Triangle, an urban mix of retail and residential uses located in Central Austin.
Prior to forming Cencor Urban, Terkel opened the Austin office of The Weitzman
Group and Cencor Realty Services in 1989 and ran that office until 2001. During
that time, Terkel developed or redeveloped over 1,800,000 square feet of retail
projects in and around central Texas. Prior
to creating the Austin division for Weitzman/Cencor in 1989, Terkel was senior
vice president for Henry S. Miller Development Group.
Organizations
Terkel
is currently an active member of several professional and civic organizations,
including the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Urban Land
Institute where he has served on the District Council of the Austin Chapter.
Terkel has served as President of the Real Estate Council of Austin, an
organization of over 2,000 members he helped found in 1991 and of which he
remains a member of the Executive Committee of its Board of Directors. He
received the Commendation of Excellence Award from RECA in 2007. Terkel is also
on the Board of Directors of the Zachary Scott Theatre and was named an honorary
Life Member of that Board. In the past, he has served on the Board of the Austin
YMCA (where he has chaired several committees), the Austin Family House and the
Mayor's Task Force - Comprehensive Watershed Ordinance.
Education
Terkel received a Juris Doctor degree from
Southern Methodist University in Dallas and a Bachelor of
Arts degree from American University in Washington, D.C.
